Local communities in Thailand have used Pueraria Mirifica for well over one hundred years, specifically for its rejuvenating qualities. The belief in the rejuvenating properties of Pueraria Mirifica has been passing down from one generation to another and more recently through the publication by Luang Anusan Suntara.
In May 1931, Luang Anusan Suntara published a pamphlet on the subject of "Kwao Krua" describing different ways of preparing folk medicine using Pueraria Mirifica and the claims of its rejuvenating power. It is stated in the pamphlet that Pueraria Mirifica can:

Serve as an anti-wrinkle agent for aged and wrinkled skin
Darken white hair, and increase hair growth
Alleviated cataract problems
Help with memory loss
Increase energy and vigor, more reflexive bodily movements
Increase blood circulation
Increase appetite, and - Alleviate sleep disorders

In 1932, Dr. A.F.G. Kerr, the Director of the Botanical Section of the Journal of the Siam Society, directed the attention of the scientific community to the fact that the tuberous roots of a Thai plant called "Kwao Krua", mistakenly identified then as Butea Superba, were considered to be of value as a rejuvenating drug.
Dr. Kerr was the first to create international awareness of the rejuvenating qualities of this plant, which subsequently led to the isolation of a potent phyto-estrogen that is unique to this plant only and to the identification of the plant as Pueraria Mirifica in 1952.

Butea Superba is a Twinning wood of long life herbal plant exists only in Thailand from the central part, eastern part, western part till the northern part of Thailand. This plant species can be found in the same habitant as Pueraria Mirifica and also the mountains area. The long-shape tubers were annually enlarged and accumulated at least 15 chemicals in the group of direct chain organic acid, sterol, sterol glycoside, flavonoid and flavonoid glycoside.

Butea Superba is an herb in the family Papilonaceae and has the characteristics of being a crawling vine that wraps itself around large trees.  One branch has three leaves.  The flowers are of a yellowish orange color and the plant grows in the open.  The long roots of the plant are buried under the ground, similar to the roots of a yam.

This type of plant reproduces through seeds and the separation of its roots.  This plant can be found growing in forests in the Northern regions, in the Eastern regions and along Kanchanaburi Province, of Thailand.  The roots and stem of the plant are medicines used for strength and power.  In addition, the roots and stem of the plant are considered to help increase male sexual performance.  Thus, this plant has come to be known as a miracle herb.  Since Butea Superba helps to enhance human health, it was considered to be an essential factor to entity the chemical constituents of this herb.

Species: Due to the dispersal habitant of the plant, many vary had been found. At least cultivars had been studied and selected for commercialized plantation and were name as Butea I and II.

Chemical properties: This herb exhibit some chemical closely related to that of the Pueraria Mirifica herb but some chemical is far more different.

The crude extract of this herb showed some similar reaction to that of the male pill; Viagra. They show vasodilatation effect the same as in the Viagra Tablet. Its chemicals also promote energetic body without any nervous or muscular or cardiac over stimulation. This is the reason why this herbal product can be studied and promoted to be the “Herbal Viagra”.

While the commercial Erectile Dysfunction-treated drug is a great interested product despite its serious adverse effect which some are related to death, a herbal product such as Butea Superba with soft but safe action should be an alternative.

Furthermore, our researcher had found that Butea Superba products could be in both forms; ingest product such as a health food product and a topical application product such as a gel cosmetic product.
